Seasonal Security

Spring –

It’s time for the spring clean and it should be time for the annual security survey!  Why not take advantage of our free home security survey to help check your home security is in order and spot any potential problem areas.

Summer –

Have you ever found that in the summer during the hotter days that your UPVC doors struggle to open or more often struggle to close?  In the summer doors tend to be left open more and with the effects of the hot sun they can often swell which causes you a problem when it comes to closing or locking the door, if you have time on your side you may be able to wait until things cool down a bit before closing, but if you’re going out and suddenly find your door won’t close or lock then you’re left in a predicament, don’t delay, why not call a locksmith to fix the problem for you therefore making ongoing accessibility much easier in future.

Holidays, how often do you see on social media that someone is jetting off on holiday? By doing this you’re advertising to everyone that your home is going to be empty!  Keep those status updates and holiday snaps for when you get back home, it really wont hurt.

Finally, as most of us like to enjoy the sunshine while it lasts, don’t make life easy for a thief by leaving doors and windows unlocked on the other side of the house whilst you’re out enjoying the sun, leaving your home insecure in this way is a gift for a thief who thinks nothing of trying the front door and making off with your bags and car keys!

Winter –

As they say, prevention is better than cure! So Making your home less attractive and more trouble than it’s worth is the best for of crime prevention.

During the winter months, the darker nights make things easier for criminals who may be snooping around and trying to remain undetected.

So what can you do to keep your home secure this winter?

Make sure all doors and windows are locked at all times other than when your present.

If nobody is going to be home then leave a light on or set up a timer to give the appearance that somebody is at home.

Have motion sensor lights fitted to the outside of your home.

Keep your curtains or blinds closed at night – open curtains during the night not only tell people that the property is likely un-occupied but it allows a would-be thief to look through and see what is on offer, which leaves me to say don’t leave any valuables where they can be seen by passers-by on the street.

As with Summer, be cautious to you social media updates if you’re planning a winter holiday away and if you are going away then consider leaving a key with a close friend or family so they can look after things while you’re away.
